Disclaimer – All Gutter Guards and Winter Ice Formation

All gutter guards are designed to reduce debris accumulation and improve water flow through your gutter system. However, during winter months, certain environmental and structural factors—including the presence of gutter guards—may contribute to the formation of icicles and ice dams.

-
Freeze/Thaw Climate: Gutter guards are not the root cause of icicles or ice dams, but they can be a contributing factor under specific conditions. Their presence can slightly alter how snow melts and refreezes along the roofline. In areas like Colorado, where winter temperatures frequently fluctuate above and below freezing, this freeze-thaw cycle can lead to melting snow refreezing at the gutter edge or on top of gutter guards, increasing the potential for icicle and ice dam formation. Additionally, water dripping from icicles or gutters can freeze upon contact with walkways, driveways, or entryways below, creating hazardous slipping conditions.

-
Attic Insulation and Ventilation: Poor attic insulation and inadequate ventilation are the primary causes of uneven roof temperatures and are the biggest contributors to the formation of ice dams and icicles. Warm air escaping through poorly insulated or ventilated attics melts snow unevenly, causing runoff that refreezes at the roof edge or over gutter guards.

-
Not a Guaranteed Prevention or Risk: While gutter guards can improve year-round gutter performance, they do not eliminate the possibility of winter-related issues such as ice dams or icicles. Conversely, the presence of ice does not necessarily indicate a defect or failure of the gutter guards.

Homeowners are strongly advised to maintain proper attic insulation and ventilation, regularly monitor gutter conditions during winter, and consider additional ice mitigation measures such as heat cables where appropriate.

Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, Colorado Gutter Professionals, its agents, employees, and individual installers expressly disclaim any and all liability for any damages, losses, or injuries arising from or related to snow or ice accumulation, icicle formation, gutter guard installation, or slipping hazards on or around the property. This includes, but is not limited to, property damage, personal injury, or death resulting from ice dams, falling ice, snow buildup, or related winter conditions. Homeowners assume all risk associated with these conditions and agree that Colorado Gutter Professionals and its installers shall not be held responsible or liable for any such damages or injuries.
